It’s a set of cards which caused a stir of interest when they first became well-known years after appearing on Oscar Gracia’s excellent 1998 book ‘Collecting Michael Jordan Memorabilia’ - the series one 93-94 Beam Team Members Only insert set is available in a gold stamp variation which is missing the ‘Members Only’ designation shown within the foil beams. It’s presumably either a pre-production or printing error card and there are varying stories about how they reached the public.
I’ve covered these cards in a few articles in the past looking at some very interesting angles:
- Members Only Beam Team Gold Stamp advertisement looking at a purported advertisement
- Unique Error 93-94 Members Only Beam Team published around the time the cards started to become well-known
- 93-94 Beam Team Members Only Gold Stamp the first BGS certified copy I had seen
- Complete set of 93-94 Beam Team Members Only Gold Stamp the first complete set I had seen - thought to be partial at the time
Recently I noticed an uncut sheet of these cards show up on Instagram and thought it would be helpful to include here by way of documentation.
Uncut sheet super collector and preserver Jeff (portland_uncut_sheets on Instagram) maintains an astounding collection of trading card uncut sheets - including the Gold Stamp Beam Team uncut sheet - spanning many sport and non-sport releases (I’ve seen some of the amazing collection alongside what is on Instagram and it’s something to behold!).
Other notable basketball sheets Jeff has shown on Instagram include:
- 86-87 Fleer uncut sheet
- 92-93 Beam Team pre foil stage uncut sheet
- 93-94 Topps Finest uncut sheet
- 93-94 TSC Beam Team Members Only Series Two uncut sheet
- 94-95 Topps Finest Refractor uncut sheet
- 94-95 Flair Hot Numbers uncut sheet
- 96-97 Topps Chrome Refractor uncut sheet
- 97-98 Skybox Jambalaya uncut sheet
These sheets are not only rare but give us an insight into how the trading cards we love were produced.
On the gold stamp sheet we can see the bottom up printing of series one of the insert has been completed. Six sets of the 13 card series one Beam Team Gold Stamp cards are printed per sheet with the unused space left blank. The cards all have a bleed printed and cutting guides visible.
We can also see there looks to have been some changes in the printing method used by the time the series two Beam Team sheets were printed with additional guides visible on those sheets.
The Gold Stamp Members Only Beam Teams do show up for sale occasionally so keep an eye here if you’re interested in buying. Of course, the 93-94 and 92-93 Beam Team cards are amazing Jordan cards deserving a place in every collection also.
